13:04 Movie showing: "Koo! Kin-Dza-Dza" (2013) | |
WHEN: September 17, 2013, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM. WHERE: Russkiy Mir Center @ American Councils. Join us for the DC
premier of the animation sequel to the cult Soviet sci-fi movie
"Kin-Dza-Dza" – "Koo! Kin-Dza-Dza.” A witty mixture
of dystopia, comedy and "cyberpunk drama", the original
"Kin-Dza-Dza" was designed as a dark parody on the capitalist world
(on the explicit level), while concealing enough of implicit satire on the
late, decaying socialist world (the word "Kin-Dza-Dza" stands for the
name of the alien galaxy). As it turns out, a quarter of a century later the
movie's philosophical depth and social insights contained apparent timeless
elements, which ensured the creation and the success of its animated sequel.
We strongly recommend
that you either view the original movie prior to attending this screening or
refresh it in your memory. Your pleasure and appreciation of the sequel
be enhanced by the recognition of the authors' changes and tweaking of the
original plot and imagery. Here is the link to the
Mosfilm HD subtitled version of the 1986 classic on YouTube. Familiarizing
yourself with the Wiki-review of
the movie's plot and trivia would also be rather helpful. In Russian with English
subtitles. Free admission. Duration - 97 minutes.
RSVP is strictly required (click here).
